Cinq sur cinq !
L’imagination ne connaît pas de frontières dans l’exposition « Les 5 », à la Cité du Temps du 13 avril au 22 mai 2016. Cinq artistes et des supports variés au service d’un message fort : l’art peut faire tomber toutes sortes de barrières. Mariana Abracheva, Boris Horlacher, Jacqueline Rommerts, Paul Estier et Peter Meijer maîtrisent une énergie créatrice impressionnante, fruit de parcours culturels et professionnels variés. Originaires de Bulgarie ou des Pays‑Bas, entre autres, les artistes associent de nombreuses techniques telles la sculpture ou la photographie. Leurs styles très personnels s’associent avec bonheur pour conquérir notre galerie et son public. La réflexion rencontre l’intemporel, la précision côtoie la spontanéité, le tout dans une exposition collective vivante qui emmène le visiteur vers de nouveaux horizons.
Mariana Abracheva est l’initiatrice de cet événement : comme ses quatre partenaires, elle est d’avis que l’art peut déplacer les montagnes de l’esprit. Le groupe est uni par la diversité même de ceux qui le composent. Chacun possède son style, issu d’expériences personnelles différentes, par exemple dans le merchandising visuel, le stylisme ou l’art thérapeutique. Jacqueline Rommerts et Peter Meijer, tous deux originaires des Pays‑Bas, sont spécialisés respectivement dans le recyclage de matériaux et la peinture acrylique. Une magie d’un autre genre émerge sous l’objectif du photographe suisse Boris Horlacher dont la série « Entre terre et ciel » pose un regard tout à fait moderne sur l’architecture et la nature. L’artiste franco‑suisse Paul Estier allie matériaux solides et contours abrupts dans des sculptures métalliques qui se soumettent avec élégance au passage du temps, sans en être pour autant altérées.
Le cinquième élément de ce quintette n’est autre que Mariana Abracheva, cosmopolite tant dans son parcours que ses points de vues. Ses tableaux 3D colorés illuminent le ciel de cette exposition aux horizons créatifs infinis. Le titre de chaque œuvre invite le visiteur à laisser libre cours à son imagination comme le ferait un titre de roman. Cirque, Alphabet et Pixel n’en sont que quelques exemples. Tout est manifestation de l’ouverture d’esprit de l’artiste. Née en Bulgarie, elle a étudié à l’Université des Arts Appliqués de Vama. Après avoir débuté en URSS, elle poursuit une carrière de styliste dans l’industrie textile française. Elle vit en Suisse romande depuis 2013.
Les bonnes choses vont décidément par cinq !
LIEU D'EXPOSITION :
Situé au cœur de Genève, le Pont de la Machine est un des emblèmes de la ville depuis 1840. Construit pour approvisionner les nouvelles fontaines publiques en eau, il est peu à peu devenu un symbole du développement industriel de la ville. Géré par Swatch Group depuis 2005, le bâtiment abrite la Cité du Temps, un lieu interactif unique qui accueille des expositions fixes et temporaires.

Five creative journeys converge on Geneva
A group exhibition explores a wide variety of artistic avenues
(Geneva, 12 April 2016) – From 13 April to 22 May 2016, the Cité du Temps is hosting “Les 5”, bringing together the work of five artists with very different creative languages. Mariana Abracheva, Boris Horlacher, Jacqueline Rommerts, Paul Estier and Peter Meijer embrace a range of techniques, as well as geographical origins stretching from the Netherlands to Bulgaria. This quintet of artists encompasses a powerful cumulative energy. Its combined effect, voiced via painting, sculpture, 3D pictures and photography, fills the gallery with its visual magic. This is perhaps the contemporary artistic equivalent of the turbines that used to occupy the historic Pont de la Machine building that the exhibition calls home today.
The seed for the exhibition was sown by Mariana Abracheva, who was familiar with the waterside location from a previous solo show. “I have met many artists in my time, but these four share a harmonious common vision of art and its capacity to break down the boundaries,” she explains. Mariana Abracheva also describes the group as individuals cultivating a variety of shapes and colours in their own “gardens”. Two Dutch artists, Jacqueline Rommerts and Peter Meijer, document and communicate their creative journeys with carefully crafted upcycling and acrylic on canvas respectively. Jacqueline’s work integrates a dynamic combination of a long track record of achievement in the areas of painting, art therapy and visual merchandising. Peter works with acrylic on canvas to produce expressionistic paintings that are suggestive of a timeless reality, playing with perspectives by means of partially visible backgrounds. Swiss photographer Boris Horlacher presents a series of pictures entitled “Between Heaven and Earth”, where architecture and nature take turns in playing lead roles, each generating a sense of “otherness”. Maybe a childhood spent in Greece and fashion design studies in Paris are softly resonating in the wings? The metallic sculptures of Franco-Swiss Paul Estier draw on the possibilities of the three-dimensional world using the tools of texture and contrast. Their bold durability equips them to stand the tests of time, a clear message of timelessness and an invitation to explore new horizons.
The creative, cosmopolitan spirit of Mariana Abracheva is present atmospherically as well as physically via her exhibits. Her ability to think out of the box is mirrored by the work she is contributing. Her 3D pictures are explosions of colour with a talent for storytelling. Themes ranging from the alphabet to the circus seduce the eyes and the imagination. Her cv is a reflection of the exhibition’s inclusive, open-minded statement too. Born in Bulgaria, she commenced her artistic career in the USSR. After graduating from the University of Applied Arts in Varna, Bulgaria, she worked in the French textile industry as a fashion designer. She has lived and worked in Switzerland since 2013.
The group exhibition “Les 5” is on at the Cité du Temps from 13 April to 22 May 2016. Opening hours are from 9am to 6pm and admission is free.
The Pont de la Machine is at the heart of Geneva and has been one of the city’s landmarks since the 1840s. It was originally built to supply water to new public fountains but through the ages has become a symbol of the city’s industrial development. Since 2005 the building has been in the hands of the Swatch Group and houses the Cité du Temps, a unique, interactive venue for permanent and guest exhibitions.
